Water Treatment

Our Water Treatment Plant
The Roxborough Water and Sanitation District Water Treatment Plant came into service in 2017, after two years of construction. The plant was named after former General Manager, Larry D. Moore, who worked almost 30 years for the District and was instrumental in securing a permanent raw-water supply for the community.
Our treatment plant uses a combination of UV light, Actiflo and chloramination to treat our water.
Ours was the first treatment plant in Colorado to receive 100 percent of its initial disinfection credits from UV (ultraviolet light.) UV light is very effective in killing many microorganisms that can be present in even the most pristine mountain streams. UV light is free of any chemicals, doesn’t affect the taste, helps keep the water clear and doesn’t add any odors.
In addition, our plant uses Actiflo, which is a highly efficient water pre-treatment (clarification) process that is more compact than other systems. This process requires a smaller footprint, which saved our customers construction costs, and has been in use for municipal water treatment plants for over 25-years to help provide high-quality water.
The last part of the treatment process is chloramination. We switched to this method in 2018 since chloramine is a more stable and better alternative to chlorine. It keeps the water safe as it moves through pipes in our distribution system to your tap.
